Financial stress and mental health

In life, stress is often difficult to avoid. You need to constantly deal with stress in a positive way.

Many things can cause stress, such as work problems, financial hardship, health issues or even the death of someone close to you.

Basically, stress can be caused by the brain signaling to the body to release hormones, after a situation. The goal is for the body to have enough energy to act or to deal with it.

When the body has the energy to deal with a question, it is actually a great way to improve one’s ability.

But in recent times, the stress of life has come in many respects, which have a profound effect on one’s psychological state.

Continuous stress can occur and make the body tired. As a result, one may find it difficult to think clearly, difficult to deal with social interaction and poor quality of life and health.

Therefore, knowing how to deal with stress is important, so the body always responds well to many situations.

As you know, someone in a state of stress can certainly not solve their financial problems. If your financial problems are not resolved, then the stress will increase.

Which one should we do first, avoid stress or solve the financial problem?

I recommend that you reduce your stress so that you can think of a solution to your financial problems, especially cash-flow and debt.

You can do as many times as you like until you feel more relaxed. Remember, don’t overdo it though. You don’t want to lose your voice the next day. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Troubleshooting financial issues

financial Stress Management Strategies: Troubleshooting financial issues

So when stress is reduced, it’s time for you to improve your financial health.

Here are some ways to help you solve your financial problems:

1. Create budgets and financial records

A financial budget can be defined as a person’s financial plan for a given period. Usually budgets are made on a monthly basis. The ideal budget is set at the beginning of the month.

Creating a financial budget is very important for you to manage your daily expenses, manage your money and keep your finances in check. You need to know where the money is spent and set aside some to pay your monthly bills.

To help you create your budget, try to find finance apps that can help you create your budget and control it.

Once you’ve set a budget, it’s important to keep a record of your income and expenses.

Knowing each incoming and outgoing fund and its purpose will let you know how much property you have. It also helpful when you make a wise decision before you spend your money for shopping etc.

Sometimes, without good budgeting, you can spend your money on things you don’t need (not within your budget).

By making a note of your spending, you can analyze your spending habits and determine which spending points can still be improved.

2. Try another financial plan – create a new financial plan that speeds up you financial goals

You need to find out the root cause of this financial crisis. The only way you can do that is to write down specific things that can reduce your financial costs. Then, you should commit to the cost reduction plan while reviewing it regularly. While it can be a bit stressful for a while, this method will eventually be helpful because you will see all the notes and plans on a piece of paper or a notebook clearly.

Once you have a financial goal, you need to prioritize each of your personal financial goals in order of importance. Then decide how long you need to save for each one.

For example, retirement can be placed last but vacation can be a short-term goal after working for a year or two. Vacation is considered a self-care plan which also help in reducing your stress level.

Next, estimate how much interest or capital gain you would expect in an account where you keep your money. You need to know how much you need to save per month in order to achieve your financial goals.

3. Take care of you debts

Debt ownership is a financial issue. This is an important issue that you need to deal with as soon as possible.

  • You need to create a debt list. You can use an excel spreadsheet or find an app to create your debt list.
  • Stop adding new debt or applying for new credit cards. You can also try debt consolidation, which means you will take out a new debt to pay off old debt by applying for a consumer loan. The goal of debt consolidation is to reduce interest rates and monthly installments.
  • Earn more. You can try opening an online store or even trying a freelance job such as teach English online or be a virtual assistant. There are so many options out there where you can actually make money online without having to sell your own products, you just have to find it and go for it. You never know until you have tried. ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Pay off one debt at a time and continue paying off another. Once you finish you can learn to improve your assets.

4. Try to turn difficult times into another opportunity

In these difficult times, it’s a good idea to take in the positive wisdom. You can think of finding other alternatives to fix your finance while motivating yourself to get out of this crisis.

Also consider learning new skills by taking courses or side jobs. The key is to get yourself through this difficult time thinking more creatively and finding new ways to manage you financially. Focus yourself to find solutions rather than dwell in your problems. I love taking courses on FutureLearn, Coursera, Udemy, and EdX. If you haven’t already, check them out.

5. Ask for professional support

In addition to the above tips, this financial issue can be resolved if you ask the right people for help. Try to consult a financial advisor and financial planner to help you manage your finances. If you continue to suffer from stress, you may want to talk to a psychologist or therapist.

***

Conclusion

The financial stress management strategies listed above are some recommended ways that you can do in order to address stress caused by financial issues. However, once again I’d like to remind you that you have to believe in yourself and everything will be okay. You are not alone in this. Help is out there. This too shall pass, my friend!

If the stress you are experiencing is heavy and interferes with your daily activities, please consult a psychologist or psychiatrist so you can get proper treatments.

  1. Hello Ferra,

Thank you for your very well thought out post on stress management.

Is there a style of Yoga that you would recommend for stress relief? I have heard that Hatha Yoga is a good choice because it focuses on relaxed breathing.

Please if you could advise me on this, I would really appreciate it.

    Michael

    1. Hi Michael,

Thank you for our kind and thoughtful comment.

I personally like Hatha because it is great to start, then I also like Kundalini because it helps me spiritually.

Glad to know you found this post useful and helpful to you.

  2. Whenever I have financial stress, it is usually because in my case, I didn’t manage my money very well.

What I personally like to do is to look over my purchases and see where I can improve.

Yet going and doing other things like getting a massage or just screaming are great methods that I didn’t think of before. I’ll be sure to refer to this article later in time and read over it again.

    Thank you for sharing!

    1. Hi Joseph,

I love your idea. I think it is important to review our expenses, see where we spend more money in and find ways to reduce it in the coming months.

Yup, trust me. Getting a massage is definitely helpful not only for your stress but also to relax your tense muscles.
Screaming is effective for me, but again, it has to be somewhere quite far from other people so we won’t annoy or scare them with our screams.

Thank you for your kind comment.

      Stay safe, happy and healthy!

  3. Excellent research and information. I am in my late 60’s and have been self employed all my life. The information you have provided is a wonderful set of sensible rules that would of reduced my stress levels. When we are under stress you forget your common sense to look for well established relief rather than”charging through it” I think the important thing that I got out of it is to remember that there are good releases/answers when you need them. Don’t be a hero.
