Fish Oil For Schizophrenia –
What does fish oil do to the brain?
The benefits of fish oil
Fish oil is a fish fat extract. It can be obtained from eating fish directly or through supplements.
Fish oil is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which are important for your health. Fish that are known to be rich in omega-3 fatty acids are salmon, mackerel, tuna, sturgeon, mullet, bluefish, anchovies, sardines, herring, trout, and menhaden.
Fish oil supplements usually contain a small amount of vitamin E. Can also be combined with calcium, iron, or vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C, or D.
Fish oil is used for many health conditions but is most often used for heart and blood system problems. Some people use this oil to lower blood pressure or triglycerides (fat associated with cholesterol).
Scientific evidence proves that fish oil is a useful supplement for reducing triglycerides, thus preventing heart disease and stroke when used according to the recommended dosage.
Fish oil is also commonly used as “brain food” which can help overcome depression psychosis, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Alzheimer’s disease, and other brain disorders.
Some other people use fish oil to treat dry eyes, glaucoma, and macular degeneration (AMD), a common condition in the elderly that can cause serious vision problems.
Women sometimes consume this oil to prevent menstrual pain, breast pain, and complications with pregnancy such as miscarriage, high blood pressure in pregnancy (preeclampsia), and early labor.
How does it work?
The most abundant content found in fish oil is omega-3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA.
Omega-3 fatty acids work to reduce inflammation so that it effectively relieves pain and swelling. This might explain why fish oil tends to be effective for psoriasis and dry eyes.
This saturated fat also prevents blood clots, so it is considered beneficial in several heart conditions.

Medical research uses fish oil for people with schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder due to a disorder in the brain nerve. This mental disorder is difficult to cure. Researchers find this disease can be prevented by consuming fish oil every day.
Taking fish oil for 3 months every day can have the same effective effects as drugs, such as reducing the risk of getting schizophrenia by 25 percent. Researchers believe that the omega-3 content in fish oil can make the heart healthy and have beneficial effects on the brain.
Dr. Paul Amminger said research findings indicate that natural ingredients such as fish oil can prevent or at least delay early psychotic disorders (psychiatric) can provide hope that there is likely to be an alternative treatment for antipsychotic drugs.
Effective antipsychotic drugs usually have serious side effects, so many people do not use these drugs. But scientists say if using fish oil supplements, in general, can be well tolerated by the body.

An international research team consisting of Austrian, Australian, and Swiss researchers involved 81 people who were considered to have a high risk of psychiatric problems. Subjects considered to have a high risk are people who have a family history of schizophrenia, other psychiatric disorders, or show mild symptoms of the psychiatric condition.
In this study participants were divided into two groups. One group took fish oil supplements containing 1.2 grams of omega-3 fatty acids for 12 weeks, while the other group took a placebo drug.
Dr Amminger and the team observed participants for 1 year to see if there were subjects who developed psychiatric disorders. Obtained from the group that consumed fish oil supplements found only 2 people who developed psychiatric disorders, while the placebo group as many as 11 people.
Scientists believe that omega-3 fatty acids contained in fish oil can change signals in the brain so that it has a beneficial effect.
Additionally, Alison Cobb from the mental health charity “Mind” said that if fish oil can prevent psychiatric disorders, then this will be better than having to give antipsychotic drugs that can have an effect on body weight or sexual dysfunction while omega-3s can really benefit the body without any other health effects.

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your post on fish oil and it’s use for schizophrenia…
In 2014, I became a fitness trainer and diet coach and have incorporated fish oil into my clients diet.
Although the smell aint too great, the capsule form is real easy to ingest because it’s actually a soft gel.
When it comes to schizophrenia, this is all new to me and I have just learned something new.
I have bookmarked your site for future reference.
Thank you!

Thanks for the insightful article regarding the use of fish oil. I’ve heard of its benefits before due to the Omega 3 fatty acids, but I’ve never heard of the possibility of fish oil helping those who suffer from schizophrenia. This is a great find and could help so many people. Alison Cobb’s video was enlightening! I believe there are many more natural solutions to issues we throw drugs at. If the FDA could ever get away from big pharma as a first go-to solution and research natural solutions first, we would probably all be a lot healthier. So, this is progress! It appears to be a trend, albeit a slow-moving one, and I hope it continues until we have a lot more natural remedies and a lot fewer drugs.
Thanks for your article!
